About

Let’s start with a little bit about me the creator of the book. I am an illustrator, graphic designer, author, children’s cook, blogger and publisher. I wear many hats throughout my working week and they all play their own part in the making of this book. I grew up on a dairy farm in Kaitoke, Upper Hutt in New Zealand, I now live in Hataitai, Wellington. I spent 3 years working as a graphic designer in Melbourne, Australia and a year studying realist drawing in Florence, Italy. Now I am back home and creating books for children. I have been the illustrator of 10 published children’s books for clients all over the world however this is the first book I have created on my own. I plan to create a large collection of stories about meal times and food. My goal is to help children understand more about the food they eat and form a healthy relationship with food and eating.

Catch that Fly! started as a small idea two years ago and has developed with my own life experiences and knowledge of children’s book creation. Now it is finally finished and I have the pleasure of sharing it with children all over the world. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it. It has been the biggest learning experience of my life and has come with the most amazing finish as I finally have made my book a reality.

The story is inspired by mother chasing flies around the kitchen. It occurred to me while watching her try many drastic measures to remove the fly from our kitchen before dinner that it would make a great children’s book. From this grew the story, illustrations and finally the book. I kept a blog throughout the process of making the book so if you want to know more about how I did it visit: Childrens Book Creation.
